Partying for a good cause: NYC

The University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center is bringing its party to New York City.

On Friday, Oct. 18, the Friends of the Center: NYC Launch Party is being held 6-9 p.m. at the EVR Lounge (54 W. 39th St.). The public is invited.

As expected, there will be gluten-free foods, including Margherita pizzas from Don Antonio by Starita and a variety of appetizers. (Some of the city's gluten-free bakeries are among those represented.) A one-hour open bar (6-7 p.m.) will be hosted by Devotion Vodka.

The entertainment portion of the evening features live music by A.J. Smith, an appearance by Miss New Jersey International Jenna Drew (aka Gluten Free Jenna) and a raffle with “generous” prizes, according to the Center.

This party is for anyone age 21 and older, due to the alcohol factor. It's a great excuse to do a date night, ladies night, singles night, etc.

Admission starts at $15 and includes food and drinks, according to the Center’s website. Benefactor-level tickets can be purchased in advance online at $25, plus a $2.24. The purchase of five tickets at any price, earns the buyer three raffle tickets.

The Center is devoted to raising awareness of Celiac Disease and diagnosis rates throughout the country, as well as meeting the needs of people affected through education, research and advocacy. All of the proceeds from Friday’s event goes towards supporting the Center’s awareness and outreach programs.

If you can't make it, but want to help, the online ticket sales website has a place where you can make a donation. If you’re in the area, check it out. This should be a fun night!
