GFGS Community Calendar: March 2014

As a service to our regular readers and the Celiac community at large, Gluten Free Garden State has started an ongoing list of upcoming events of interest. We will feature events local to New Jersey, those regional program within driving distance and some that may be worth a longer trip. Restaurants, retailers, event planners and charities are encouraged to submit their gluten-free events to gfgardenstate@gmail.com for possible inclusion.

The calendar will appear on the second Sunday of each month. Links will be posted to Facebook and Twitter using the hashtages #2ndSundaySked and #savetheceliacdate.

Tuesday, March 18: Northern NJ Celiac Disease Support Group Meetup: Monthly meeting held 7-9 pm at the Dorothy B. Kraft Center, 15 Essex Rd., Paramus (Bergen County). According to the group, this meeting will feature a sampling of specialty baked goods by Lizzie's GF with a visit by business owner Liz Schaeffer, and tastings of products by Frontier Soups and Libre Naturals. Friday-Sunday, April 4-6: Gluten Free Living Conference in Orlando, Fla., hosted by Gluten Free Living magazine. Workshops and panel discussions on a wide range of topics of interest to the gluten-free community, as well as a show floor featuring the latest products and raffles. go to gflconference.com for more information.


Tuesday, April 8: Celiac Awareness Night with the New York Islanders, 7 p.m. at Nassau Coliseum. Hosted by the Kicking 4 Celiac Foundation, whose student ambassadors will be on hand to educate the public about celiac disease.

Saturday-Sunday, April 12-13: Gluten & Allergen Free Expo in Chicago, Ill. with educational presentations, and products for sampling and purchase. Event runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Parking is free. Go to gfafexpo.com to purchase tickets and obtain additional information.


Friday, May 16: Spring Flours, 4th annual benefit to support the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center. Held at Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, the event features more than 25 gluten-free chef stations and a live auction. Additional information at cureceliacdisease.org.

Saturday-Sunday, May 17-18: Gluten & Allergen Free Expo in Atlanta, Ga. with educational presentations, and products for sampling and purchase. Event runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Parking is free. Go to gfafexpo.com to purchase tickets and obtain additional information.

Saturday-Sunday, June 7-8: National Conference & Gluten Free Expo hosted by the non-profit Celiac Disease Foundation in Pasadena, Calif. Information from medical and nutrition experts, including Dr. Allessio Fasanao, founder of the Center for Celiac Research, Boston. Conference runs 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and includes gluten-free breakfast and lunch. Expo is 2-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. It features new products, cooking demonstrations and swag. Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 6-7: Gluten & Allergen Free Expo at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, Hudson County. Event runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Parking is free. Go to gfafexpo.com to purchase tickets and obtain additional information.


Saturday, Nov. 22: Food Allergy & Celiac Convention at Walt Disney World's Coronado Springs Resort, Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Starting at 9 a.m., the day includes breakfast, an expo area, workshops, samples, information and giveaways. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door for adults; $5 for children.
