GFGS Community Calendar: October 2015

As a service to our regular readers and the Celiac community at large, Gluten Free Garden State has started an ongoing list of upcoming events of interest. We will feature local happenings, as well as national events open to the public. The calendar will appear on the second Saturday of each month. Links will be posted to Facebook and Twitter using the hashtages #GFSked and #celiacsavethedate.

In the coming month, there's a grocery store festival in Evesham, a tasting party in Westfield, and support groups in Long Branch and Voorhees, among many other events in New Jersey and surrounding areas. 


Around the Garden State

Saturday, Oct. 17: Gluten Free Festival at ShopRite of Marlton, 10 am-2pm, 307 West Route 70 in Evesham. The free, in-store festival features registered dietitians to answer questions, educational information, shopping tips and meal ideas.

Saturday, Oct. 24: Savor the Flavor Gluten-Free Tasting Party at Patricia & Paul: Artisans of Fine Oils and Balsamics (20 Elm St.) in Westfield, 7:30-9:30 pm; Meet-Up with the Celiacs of Central NJ group. The store will be closed to the public for this private event. Cost is $25. Join and/or register for the party online through the group's Meet-Up page.

Sunday, Nov. 1: Celiac Sprue Association, Southern New Jersey Chapter meeting, 2-4:30 pm, Hope Church (700 Cooper Rd., Voorhees); Thanksgiving covered dish meeting. New members welcome. Bring the recipe for your dish.

Thursday, Nov. 5: Kogan Celiac Center Support Group at Monmouth Medical Center, 6:30-8 pm, at 300 Second Ave. in Long Branch. An extension of the Barnabas Health system, the group is professionally-facilitated with the goal of providing support, sharing knowledge and developing coping skills for those seeking to manage a healthy, gluten-free lifestyle. NJ's Metro Areas

Sunday, Oct. 18: Gluten Free Baking Class, 5-9 pm, at Krumville Bake Shop (630 Flushing Ave.) in Brooklyn. A hands-on class baking pies and tarts. Attendees will share finished products and each will take home a bag of flour mix. Cost is $47 per person. Tickets can be ordered through Event Brite. The event is hosted by the shop's founder, Antonella, and New York City Gluten-Free Meet-Up organizer Jessica.

Thursday, Oct. 22: Autumn Gluten Free cooking class, 6:30-9 pm, at Madsen Kitchen and Bath Design Center in Broomall, Pa. Executive Chef David Grear, and Dietician Judy Matusky will facilitate the course with autumn and winter recipes. Saturday, Nov. 7: GF Oktoberfest at Pie By the Pound (124 4th Avenue, between 12th and 13th streets) in New York City. The first event of its kind, it features tastings for more than 45 gluten-free beers and ciders, as well as unlimited food, including sausage, pizza and desserts. Weekend Away

Saturday, Oct. 17: Celiac Education Day at the University of Chicago's Celiac Disease Center, 9 am-1 pm, at the campus' DCAM building. The day features free blood screening (with advance registration), breakout sessions and access to information about celiac disease. Check out the center's website for more information.
