It's Toffee-Tastic news!

The national Girls Scouts organizations recently announced its release of two gluten-free cookies for this year's sale. This blog reported in August about the Trios, which are available through the Girl Scouts' Central & Southern New Jersey Council.

We have since learned that the second gluten-free cookie, the Toffee-Tastic, will be available in the rest of the state, through New Jersey's other three Girl Scout councils: Heart of New Jersey, Jersey Shore and Northern New Jersey. This is described by the manufacturer, Little Brownie Bakers, as a "crisp, buttery cookies packed with golden toffee bits."

Like the Trios, the Toffee-Tastic cookies will sell for $5 a box and availability depends on which troops opted to sell through the gluten-free pilot program. (Troops also receive a higher profit for these treats.) Both cookies also are certified as gluten-free by NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) International.

Cookie sales start this coming week with exact dates varying by council. According to the national organization, this year is the first in which gluten-free cookies are being sold nationwide. It's a pilot program that has expanded since last year's sale of chocolate chip cookies in some areas, which did not include any of the four New Jersey councils.

If you know a troop selling either gluten-free cookie, send a message to gfgardenstate@gmail.com or post a cookie booth location in the comments below. We'll post the information as it becomes available.
